Kharkiv Oblast is located in the north-eastern part of Ukraine, on the northern border of the region the state boundary between Ukraine and the Russian Federation lies. The relief of the territory of the Kharkiv Oblast is mostly flat and located within the Dnieper lowland, most of the soils is black earth. The significant reserves of natural gas explored in subsoil of Kharkiv Oblast, also there are explored deposits of oil, limestone, chalk and clay. Kharkiv Oblast is predominantly industrial region, among the leading industries are mechanical engineering, avia engineering, chemical industry, metal processing. Agriculture of the region is specializes in the production of grain, sunflower, sugar beet, vegetables, meat and milk. Kharkiv Oblast has considerable potential in the field of education and research activities, the territory of region hosts numerous educational institutions with higher accreditation level.
